Raised by Texan expats in Hong Kong, as a child Chad would often be found staring at his toy cars from different angles, or asking why ceiling fans had the number of blades that they had, and when he was barely a decade old he loved going to IKEA by himself to check out the room layouts.

He also LOVED to draw cars, which led him to his first career in Automotive Design after earning an AA in Industrial Design from the Art Institute of Seattle and a BS in Transportation Design from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.

After working in the Automotive Design Industry as an interior designer for several years, he decided he wanted to try something different and in 2012 found himself working as a Set Decorator and Production designer, creating environments for the entertainment industry.

“From an early age Chad was a curious and analytical person with an eye for design.”

Along the way, Chad discovered he also loved designing interiors and helping businesses and other entrepreneurs with graphic design.

In 2021 Chad’s Fantasy Garage began as a side project to return to automotive design without the traditional constraints, with FUN, SIMPLICITY, NOSTALGIA, AND BELIEVABILITY core to its purpose.

In 2022 Chad was awarded an Emmy for his design work on a set designed for ABC News, featuring music artist Andra Day.

In 2024 Chad Phillips Interior Design was officially established, offering comprehensive services for those in the greater Los Angeles area.
